A Lifelong Journey of Learning and Advocacy
From an early age, Randall Walters was fascinated by the way people think and learn. Growing up, he was the kind of child who asked questions, observed the world around him, and sought to understand how people learn best. That curiosity, combined with his love for sports and working with children, naturally led him into a career in education.
"My goal has always been to understand how people learn best, and to create connections that make each learner feel seen and supported."
Randall has worked as a school psychologist for over 15 years and holds three graduate degrees, each reflecting his unwavering commitment to advocating for students and families with learning differences. Throughout his career, he has championed the implementation of best practices and the science of reading, striving to create educational spaces that are inclusive, supportive, and designed for every student to thrive.
Throughout his career, he has focused on understanding and supporting diverse learning needs, helping teachers with assessment, data collection, and supporting parents, teachers, and families to ensure all learners succeed. Randall has always kept students at the center of his work. He is a systems-level thinker, passionate about developing solutions to challenges in the education system, and believes that all children, regardless of their challenges, have the potential to succeed with the right tools and support.
The Science of Reading and Inclusive Education
A central focus of Randall's career has been promoting the science of reading. He is passionate about helping educators implement evidence-based practices in their classrooms, ensuring that every student has access to quality literacy education.
"Reading is the foundation for everything. If we can get it right—if we can provide students with the tools they need to read confidently—we open doors to every other subject and opportunity."
In addition to his work on literacy, Randall is deeply committed to fostering inclusive learning environments. He understands that students come with diverse needs, and his mission is to create settings where each child feels supported and empowered.
"Inclusion is about more than just having students in the same classroom," he says. "It's about making sure each student feels like they belong and that their unique strengths are recognized and valued."
This belief in inclusion goes beyond academics—it also focuses on the social and emotional well-being of students. Randall strives to ensure that every learner feels safe, respected, and encouraged to express themselves, knowing that they are a vital part of the classroom community.
Lessons from Soccer and Co-Authoring **Kit's Reading Adventure
Before stepping into education, Randall played college and professional soccer, which taught him the importance of perseverance and teamwork. These qualities have greatly influenced his approach to working with educators, students, and families. He believes that, much like in soccer, success in learning comes from collaboration, resilience, and a willingness to get back up after setbacks.
Randall's passion for education is also a family affair. He co-authored Kit's Reading Adventure with his wife, Sarah Walters, combining their shared expertise to create a resource that empowers children with learning differences. The book aims to inspire young readers to embrace their unique learning journeys, fostering resilience and self-acceptance along the way.
"Writing Kit's Reading Adventure was a deeply rewarding experience. We wanted to create a story that spoke directly to children who might feel different because of the way they learn. We want them to see that their differences are not weaknesses—they are what make them special."
Empowering Every Child
Through his work, Randall hopes to inspire not just students but also the educators, parents, and communities that support them. He envisions a future where every child, regardless of their learning journey, feels empowered to pursue their dreams and develop a lifelong love for reading.
"My mission is simple: to make sure every child feels valued and capable. No matter how they learn or what challenges they face, they deserve an education that uplifts and empowers them."
